Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Geo domain?
Geo is a domain industry standard reference to a domain that contains the name of a geographic location. It would contain a town, city, county, state or country name.

What is a Generic domain?
Generic is a domain industry standard reference to a domain that only contains common keywords, or keyword combinations, such as real estate, home, and mortgage.

What is a Keyword?
A keyword is any word someone types into a search engine to find a website. Keywords in domain names help the search engines identify web sites that contain content relative to searches. For example, if someone types ‘new york city mortgage lender’ into Google, and your website address is newyorkcitymortgagelender.com, it is very likely that your website will show up in a high position in the search results.

How do I pay for a domain?
Please contact us via the the Contact Form on the right side of any page - please mention the domain name you’re interested in. We will respond to you via email and make arrangements for payment. Our policy is to use PayPal for purchases of $2,000 or less. You may use most major credit cards for payments through PayPal. For domains priced above $2,000 we use Escrow.com to transfer payments - the funds are not released to us until you have control of the domain. Escrow.com fees will be split evenly between GeoBroker and you.

How is the domain transfered to me?
Once payment is received, either through PayPal or into the escrow account at Escrow.com, we will initiate the domain transfer to you.

The quickest and easiest way to receive your domain is to open an account at the same domain registrar where we have the domain registered. We will notify you which registrar holds the domain you have selected. In almost all cases opening a new account at a registrar is free. Once your account is open at that registrar we can transfer the domain to you.

The entire purchase and transfer process is typically completed in 1-2 business days if the transfer is at the same registrar. If a domain must be transferred to a third party registrar the process can take 1-2 weeks.
Please Contact Us if you have any questions.

What is a Domain Name Registrar?
A domain name registrar is a company that has been accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) with the authority to register Internet domain names for end users. Worldwide ICANN has approved hundreds of registrars.

Is GeoBroker a domain name registrar?
No, we are a marketer of already registered domain names. We work with dozens of different registrars and pay annual renewal registration fees on all of our domain names.

Will I own my domain name?
Technically, no. You never physically own a domain name - you own the right to use it. ICANN and your registrar will require the payment of an annual registration (renewal) fee. These fees are typically $10-$15 per year and can be paid in advance for up to 10 years through your registrar. It is critical that you keep your registration contact information up-to-date so your registrar can send you reminders that your renewal fees are due. If you do not pay your renewal registration fees your registration will expire and you will loose your domain. Expired domain names are frequently resold by the registrars.

How does GeoBroker determine the price of their domains?
We spend many hours per month tracking the domain resale industry and domain auctions worldwide. We attend domain industry and local search marketing conferences and network with marketers and end users. We believe our domains are priced very fairly relative to recent geo domain sales.

Why does GeoBroker only have .com domains?
In a word – quality. .com is the primary and most memorable suffix used on the Internet. In the United States, thousands of companies have spent billions of dollars marketing .com web sites. Today, despite the advent of many new suffix’s, .com is still the easiest to remember and the one that most consumers use when searching for a web site. If you want more customers and potential customers to remember your web address and find your web site, you must use a .com domain name.
